A Birth Day contest!

Any day now I’m going to get around to taking pictures of the nursery and various crafty projects I’ve finished in the last week of waiting. Any. Day.

In the meantime, I thought we could do a contest about this kiddo o’ mine and when you all think he’ll make his appearance. So, you comment with a date and time and the person who is closest gets… something.

Here’s where it gets weird, because this is me and I am: you get to decide what your prize is and in exchange you’ll understand if it takes me a little while to get it out to you because of the whole kid arriving thing and all.

If you’reĀ  interested in kid stuff, you can choose from a quilted bib (boy, girl, or neutral), pack of cloth wipes (boy, girl, or neutral), bunting (boy, girl, or neutral), car seat throw (more on this soon, but like a lightweight blanket to put between the slick car seat and your kid during the hot months), or something else you can suggest and I have the right to veto until we come to agreement. Ha! Oh, you can also choose my copy of Baby Bargains from this year and/ or a whole pile of baby-related books.

If you’re not into kid stuff, you can choose from a coffee/ cup cozy (quilted or knitted) or something else you can suggest and I have the right to veto until we come to agreement. (Sorry, I tended to make kid gifts even before having my own.)

So, easy peasy: leave a comment with the date and time you think the kid’ll arrive. If you win, I’ll email you and then we can figure out what you’re getting for being brilliantly psychic.

Pertinent details:

  • I’m due August 1.
  • My cycle is (was!) longer than 28 days, generally 30-32.
  • I had an ultrasound early in first trimester (week six) and have been consistently on track with an 8/1 due date throughout my pregnancy.
  • The kid dropped two weeks ago, I thought, but then last night he really dropped and is now cantilevered off my lady parts, or so it feels.
  • I’m having very regular Braxton-Hicks contractions, but have had them since week 28-ish, so only the frequency seems to be increasing.
  • As of Tuesday, I was 70% effaced, not dilated at all, kid at -1 station.
  • Though I am sewing and cleaning and organizing, it’s not so much that I feel like I want to but rather than there’s this looming sense of doom, so I don’t count that as “nesting.”

  1. 8/11 at 6:17 a.m. (This is a prediction and definitely not a wish!!) based on the fact that the average first time mama gives birth at 41 weeks 3 days.

Wishing you a safe, easy delivery and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers!

  2. August 4, 6:35am.

I picked the 4th because it’s the birthday of a favorite cousin of mine – a wonderful guy – and it would be neat for your little dude to share a birthday with him!

Wishing you all the best in these final days of pregnancy!!

  3. Some one already chose my first two dates so I’ll say August 8th at 2:38 am.

I hope you don’t go late but a little over a week isn’t too bad…more time to prep.

  4. Hmmm I’ll go with 8/5 at 4:00pm. That is a totally random guess. Honestly I hope he comes sooner or at least gets off your lady parts ;).

  5. Just because first babies have a tendancy to go over their due date I’m going with August 7 @ 1:02am.

Good luck! And hope he comes earlier cause I know you’ll get more and more uncomfortable as the days go on =)

  6. Fun! I’ll say August 5 at, umm, 1:00am! It’s the birthday of my dog and my BFF college roommate. Nice solid Leo date. Happy birthing!!! xoxoxo!

P.S. for my gift, I suggest an ipad and/or kitchenaid mixer? Cool? That work? Thanks! : ) : )

  7. Hm I shall go with August 6, because it seems like a lot of people I know have that birthday. As for the time I’m thinking 2am. Good luck for whenever it happens!

  8. I’m going with August 1, because it’s my wedding anniversary (although your stats sound a bit like mine, and I went a day early). I’ll say 7:58 AM, which was my baby’s birth time (I think. Ish.)

  9. August 9 and 7:30pm. (My first guess of August 4 at 3:45 pm had too many very close to it.)
Why August 9? It’s my birthday and I think it’s a pretty great day on which to be born!

  10. I’m going to guess August 3rd and 2:02 pm. And if I’m right, I really just want bragging rights. =) As my husband says, it’s not about what you win, IT’S ABOUT WINNING!

  11. August 4, 1:23 am.

I will cross every finger and toe in my house that you don’t go that long, though. Lorelai was a week late and that last week was once big pile of hormonal, crying suck. (Though it sounds like you’re far more zen about this than I was — everyone — including my midwives — was convinced she was going to be early. The only reason she arrived when she did was because I tripped and face-planted and they decided to induce me since I was at the hospital already, rather than making me wait till my scheduled last-possible-day-they’d-let-me-go-to induction date of four days later.)

  12. Totally delurking to say that 1) you are awesome and 2) though not pregnant or planning to go preggers anytime soon, I have loved reading your posts! (Thanks also for turning me on to The Fluent Self — so fantastic.) And also: Aug. 3, 6:00pm.
