What a week

Meet my son:

He was born Wednesday, August 3 at 1:04 pm via c-section. Yup, at a hospital. Yup, even after all the Hippie Center and HippieBirthing and general hippieness, my son was born via c-section. Funny how life works.

He weighed five pounds, 13 ounces and measured 20 inches long – average length, below average weight. His APGAR scores were 8 and 9 (at one and five minutes, respectively) so he’s perfectly fine and full-term, but skinny.

I’ll post more of the story as I process it, having definitely accepted the outcome (cute baby!) and mostly accepted the process (a little harder given the intervention-ness of it all), but I thought you’d want to meet him first.

  1. Congratulations!! He is adorable, so handsome. I officially lost the contest, but ah well. 🙂 Can’t wait to read your story, and hope your new little family is doing well!

  2. Welcome to the world, James Javier! Congratulations, Marisa. He’s amazingly beautiful! I’ve been on pins and needles all week, and I couldn’t be more thrilled if he were my own grandson! Crazy Internet, huh? Take care of yourself and let people take care of you – the baby will for sure let you know what he needs. Looking forward to hearing about your wonderful adventure in motherhood.

  3. He is beautiful! You did a wonderful job incubating such a gorgeous and healthy little man. I can’t wait to read all the details. Process away and enjoy you little boy.

  4. Adorable! I had the unexpected induction/ c-section, too. A shocker, but what a lovely prize at the end of the turmoil!

Love his name and the robot sheets =D

  5. Congratulations Marisa! He’s beautiful. I’m sure you’re processing a lot – so glad you stopped in to let everyone know! Enjoy your first week with James 🙂

  8. Love the hat! He’s so cute. Glad you’re both doing well and obviously can’t wait to hear more details. Enjoy the newness of it all.

  9. Congrats. I haven’t checked in in a long while. I started following you back in the Wedding Bee days. Your son has a great Birthday, it’s mine as well.

  10. Congratulations to you and your husband! He is absolutely gorgeous! Sorry to hear the birth was different from what you wanted…at least you have an adorable outcome!

  11. Hey Lady, I usually never comment, just lurk, but had to after reading your comments about your c-section. My first child (a son) was born on May 23 this year, via c-section, after I wanted nothing more than a natural birth. I struggled for weeks afterwards with the way things turned out, reliving every detail, trying to figure out what I (or specifically the hospital staff) could have done differently to avoid the c-section. Truth remains, I delivered a 9 lb, 21 in baby (on time, not overdue) and well, my body just couldn’t get him out. In the end, he’s very happy, healthy and beautiful, which I suppose is the main goal of labor and delivery, huh? Can’t wait to hear your story, and see more pics of your baby boy.

    He’s beautiful!

  12. He’s beautiful! Congratulations, so happy for you, and can’t wait to hear all about bringing James into the world, and how things are going since then, (when you’re up to it.) Cheering for you and your growing family!

  13. As many have said, I’ve always been a reader, but not so much a commenter. Still – wanted to pop in and say Congratulations!! He’s gorgeous and glad to hear that things went (relatively) okay.

  14. Congratulations, Marisa! He’s gorgeous!! Well done, mama 🙂

I love his name, too. Are you thinking of calling him JJ for short?

  15. YAYYY! Baby!!! I have been checking your blog like twice a day, hoping for an announcement 🙂 like lots of others, I’m a first time commenter, longtime reader… since the weddingbee days 🙂

  16. Oh, he is just beautiful.

If you find yourself needing/wanting to talk to someone who also ended up with an unplanned, unwanted c-section, feel free to email me. My c-section was so not the birth experience I’d hoped for and expected, and I didn’t have anyone to talk to about it afterward and I wish I had. Even if you don’t want a response, just want someone to listen to you process.

  17. Yay!! Congratulations! I too am a follower from WB and have been excited to hear the news. Hope your new little family is all doing really well!

  18. He is BEAUTIFUL!! Congrats, you must be exhausted, in love, and proud. I love the hat too, ridic adorbs. Yep, I just shortened both those words, and then explained it.

Anyways. Congrats mama, you done good.

  19. He is so precious! Congrats, Mama! I know you made the right decisions all along the process, and look at that wonderful outcome that you got! Hope you are recovering well xo

  20. This is my first time commenting. Just wanted to say Congratulations!!! He’s absolutely adorable!! & isn’t it funny how life works.
